Thompson has worked with each corporation to put implement Project TNT with sixth and eighth grade students; as well as any other students who may be identified as high risk for tobacco use. Thompson will be administering the program as well as training school staff to deliver it in future years.
In addition to this curriculum, Thompson is also certified to offer Tobacco Addiction Program (TAP) which helps individuals under the age of 18 quit smoking. Activities in Project TNT include games, videos, role-plays, large and small group discussion, use of student worksheets, homework assignments,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], activism letter writing, and a videotaping project. Student participants will be evaluated by pre- and post-test measures to determine what they have learned from the program.
The evidence of a reduced youth smoking rate as a result of the program will hopefully be seen in future IPRC student self reports. Smoking cigars, once a pastime reserved for the elite and seen as a symbol of bourgeois decadence in China, is now enjoyed by thousands with numbers growing daily nationwide. According to recent industry reports more than RMB 2.2 billion is spent on cigars in China a year, and the numbers are going up.
In major Chinese cities with Shanghai leading the way a Chinese cigar culture is clearly taking hold. But what's interesting is that women are starting to join the ranks of newly curious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], newly moneyed and status-hungry men,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gaining entry into the world of Chinese cigar aficionados. Just not in Castelln.
Or San Pedro de Alcntara. Or Valencia. Ever since the law went into effect, a small but growing number of bars and restaurants have joined in open rebellion against it, blatantly encouraging smoking and collecting signatures to have the law appealed. Jos Eugenio Arias,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], owner of the Asadaor de Guadalmina, was the first to defy the prohibition.
On Jan. 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he hung posters around his restaurant in San Pedro de Alcntara,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on Spain's southern coast, saying that smoking is allowed, and told Spanish television that he and other restaurant owners were going to unite to fight this absurd law.Tejedor, 500 miles (800 km) to the northeast in Castelln, was the first to join him. In a nation where 31.5% of the population smokes (often with a drink or snack in hand),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the new restrictions, he worries, will imperil business.
Already, in the first days of the law, we saw a huge drop in our clientele,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],he says. This is a question of survival. I don't smoke, but I have to protect those who do because I don't want to end up unemployed. The rebellion is taking diverse forms. Some restaurant owners are launching petitions to get the law repealed. Other public facilities that have long welcomed cigarettes are trying to turn themselves into private smoking clubs, so that members will still be able to light up.
